Barbara and Matthias Templ developed the R package pep725, to support the spatio-temporal analysis and diagnostic characterization of phenological data from the Pan European Phenology database (PEP725).
The pep725 package provides tools for:
- standardized data import and preprocessing
- systematic data quality assessment
- computation of phenological normals and anomalies
- estimation of elevational and latitudinal gradients
- quantification of spatio-temporal synchrony
- interactive and publication-ready figures
- and additional utilities for phenological analysis workflows
The package includes several vignettes demonstrating typical workflows, including data access, quality diagnostics, spatial analyses, and visualization of phenological patterns.

- GitHub: https://github.com/matthias-da/pep725
The R package pep725 will facilitate the use of PEP725 data in reproducible scientific workflows and support research on phenology, climate change impacts, and large ecological observation networks.
